Oats in the North, Wheat from the South: a history of British baking, Savoury and Sweet

Oats in the North, Wheat from the South: a history of British baking, Savoury and Sweet

Last Thursday, 2nd April was the publication date for Regula Ysewijn’s latest book,

Oats in the North, Wheat from the South: a history of British baking, Savoury and Sweet

We should have been going to the launch party, a chance to put on our glad rags and hightail it to London to join in the celebrations of this wonderful book. We would have wowed you with photos of the event, regaled you with tales of who we met. But alas, it was not to be. Regula was also due to appear on Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour and had promised Jenni Murray a selection of freshly baked treats from the book.

Sadly for the Woman’s hour team, Regula could not be there in person with her basket of goodies.  But she was on the end of a phone line and, luckily for the rest of us, the interview went ahead, without actual cake!  It was fascinating to listen to her obvious love of Britain and what had inspired her to write this book. This has spurred us to dive head first into this glorious book and join in Regula’s #coronabaking.  The writing is wonderful, the photographs fabulous, the history captivating and the recipes mouthwatering.  A book to digest on every level.

You can listen to the full interview and see more pictures from the book here:
