The Observer: A day in the sun with Nigel Slater and his prospector pans; a fiery day with Adam Purnell

There are always good reasons to read the Observer Food Monthly and this month those reasons include Nigel Slater's dawn to dusk summer menu, featuring among other delicious things, mushrooms (to be eaten on toast) and mackerel with fennel and orange  perfectly presented in Nigel's own prospector pans and photographed by Jonathan Lovekin.

The feature ranges from breakfast through to lunch, followed by afternoon tea, concluding with that mackerel dish for supper. This is definitely our kind of summer's day.

Nigel Slater has a website that takes you through his work in the press, TV, instagram and, best of all, his books,

And, as the headline on page 15 says "It's getting hot out there" and it's not just the weather.  At front and centre of the UK Food Tours section is  Adam Purnell, Shropshire's very own "King of the Grill".  We've lost count of how long we've known Adam and watched the amazing arc of his fire cooking career and we are thrilled to see his talent recognised and appreciated.

You can eat Adam's delicious barbecue'd food at Embers restaurant, where you can also attend his entertaining and informative fire classes. or follow him on Instagram @shropshire.lad to see what he is up to.
